Michael Gray (born Michael Anthony Shefford Malcolm Gray) is a British DJ and house music producer who is signed to the independent dance record label, Eye Industries. He is also one half of the dance music production/remixing duo Full Intention. "Full Intention" was also the song that Gray produced for The BRIT Awards in 1990.
His first big hit was a house tune in the mutant disco style, called "The Weekend". The record, which similar to Junior Jack's "Room 5" owed a debt to Oliver Cheatham, became a Top 10 hit in the UK Singles Chart when licenced through UMTV and also notched up over 20,000 plays on the radio It also contained a re-worked sample replay of "Back At Ya" by Kerr, used throughout most of the song. The sample was replayed by Mark Summers at Scorccio Music Replays, and then later this replay (mainly a keyboard riff) was re-edited to fit the tempo and pitch of "The Weekend". In the United States, "The Weekend" was also a Top 10 hit on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart in 2005, where it was released on Ultra Records. It was also used in a scene set in women's-only male strip club for the Ugly Betty episode, "Sofia's Choice", in 2007.
The follow-up to "The Weekend" was called "Borderline" and featured vocals from Shelly Poole, formerly of Alisha's Attic. It was released on 24 July 2006. The track peaked at #3 on the ARIA Club Chart and at #12 on the UK Singles Chart. His debut album Analogue Is On was released late in 2007. "Somewhere Beyond" peaked at #5 on the Australian ARIA Club Chart.
Gray's next single "Ready for This", under the name of 'Robot Man', featuring Nanchang Nancy, was released in October 2008 in the United Kingdom. The single was a club hit, where it reached the #5 on the UK Club Chart, and #1 on the UK Upfront Club Chart. However, it failed to chart on the UK Singles Chart.
